Bitcoin Price Surpasses $3,950 by Recording 7.11% Increase as US-North Korea Tension Intensifies

Bitcoin Price Surpasses $3,950 by Recording 7.11% Increase as US-North Korea Tension Intensifies

Today, on September 25, bitcoin price surged from $3,690 to $3,950, recording a staggering 7.11 percent increase over the past 24 hours. Analysts attributed the overnight surge in the price of bitcoin to the intensifying conflict between the US and North Korea.

Earlier today, North Korea’s foreign minister Ri Yong-ho held an abrupt press conference in New York, accusing the US President Donald Trump of declaring war against North Korea. Ri emphasized that the “world should clearly remember” that it was the US which supposedly declared war against North Korea. Ri told reporters:

“In light of the declaration of war by Trump, all options will be on the operations table of the supreme leadership of the DPRK [North Korea].”

The North Korean government’s threats against the US and the completion of a collaborative military drill between the US and Japan in which B-1B bombers from Guam and F-15 fighter escorts from Okinawa, Japan flew over the waters of North Korea, led global stocks to plunge. More to that, reserve currencies such as the US dollar and Japanese yen declined in value.

The History of Bitcoin.com: An Introduction to Our New Company Blog

The History of Bitcoin.com: An Introduction to Our New Company Blog

This September is our two year anniversary operating Bitcoin.com — the world’s most interactive web portal dedicated to educating the world about the technological innovation we all love — Bitcoin.

The website Bitcoin.com is a big project, and we’ve been steadily improving every corner of the site over the last two years. The domain has a long history and has passed through many hands over the course of the past eight years. In fact, Bitcoin.com was registered in January of 2008, a year before the protocol was released by Satoshi Nakamoto back in January of 2009. After the domain was created, one of the earliest bitcoin exchanges, Tradehill, took over the website six years ago but the ownership didn’t last long. The trading platform fell apart, and the domain was then transferred over to Roger Ver in April of 2014.

Ver explains that he purchased Bitcoin.com for an undisclosed sum. Originally Blockchain.info was going to use the website as the main landing page Ver says, but the idea never came to fruition. Following this Ver negotiated a deal with the Chinese exchange, Okcoin, to lease the website as he had several other offers from interested parties. Ver says that Okcoin provided the best offer for the lease agreement and the two parties worked out an arrangement. Okcoin didn’t put much work into the website’s design and in May of 2015 Ver revealed to the public that the exchange owed him funds for overdue payments. Ver explains that “Okcoin breached the agreement in every manner possible.”

Wind Energy Used To Mine Cryptocurrency To Fund Climate Research

Wind Energy Used To Mine Cryptocurrency To Fund Climate Research

Sometimes things have to get worse before they change for the better. A fever is an example. To a certain point, fever rises to an intense degree to chase out the pathogens of the common flu. However, if the heat hits a certain point, it injures more than it helps. Climate change has already reached (passed) a life-threatening stage. It is plain that the beginnings of pollution and climate change trouble came with our “modern” industrial age. Yet, modern research and technology are also key to returning to a stable climate and clean air.

I’m disappointed that everyone has not watched Chasing Ice to better understand where we are headed with that. It is a brilliant intersection of documentary, science, climate change, adventure, and art/film. It is also a way to personalize climate science and help bring more support to this critical area of research.

Another way to bring more attention and funding to climate science is by using renewable energy to “uncover” cryptocurrency. Say what?

Julian Oliver, who used wind energy “to mine cryptocurrency to fund climate research,” explains further after the artistic picture.

Crypto Mining ”More Profitable Than Drugs and Arms Trafficking” in Russia

Crypto Mining ”More Profitable Than Drugs and Arms Trafficking” in Russia

2017’s cryptocurrency boom sparked widespread graphics card shortages globally, with the most extreme shortages being witnessed in low-wage nations such as Russia – where cryptocurrency mining can offer returns that rival many mainstream careers. Following a dramatic increase in mining activities from both the public and private sector, RT, an international news organization funded by the Russian state, has conducted interviews with several miners, seeking to gain insights into Russia’s bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining industry.

RT spoke with a Siberian miner, Ilya, who describes a rising popularity of bitcoin mining that penetrates all demographics in Russian society. Ilya states that “pensioners come to their grandchildren, and give them gadgets for mining as presents. They hold competitions among their grandchildren who will earn most bitcoins! Essentially, pensioners get their grandkids hooked on mining!”

RT met with Dmitry, a 15-year-old schoolboy who has started to mine for bitcoin. Dimitry states that “mining technologies are very promising. An increasing number of people get involved in this, get new skills and improving old practices.” Despite growth in the sector, the student concedes that he has encountered skepticism regarding his activities, including from his parents. “Although I have vividly described to them the mining process and the opportunities of mining, they feel suspicious about it. That’s why I have to do this alone.”

Speaking at the recent “Digital Economy: Generation Z” quiz in Moscow, 16-year-old Yaroslav claimed to have made paper gains of over 12,000% this year through cryptocurrency investments. Yaraslov stated that he “invested 1,000 rubles ($17 USD) in February. Seven months have passed, and now I have 127,000 ($2,200 USD) in cryptocurrency equivalent.”

Wait and Watch? Bitcoin Prices Hover Near Make or Break Level

Wait and Watch? Bitcoin Prices Hover Near Make or Break Level

What's behind bitcoin's recent lethargic price action?

Well, for one, investors appear to be waiting on the sidelines as they seek clarity out of China following news that the country's exchanges will shut down operations by October's end. Traders, it seems, are in no mood to take up big positions, as evidenced by the drop in the volumes.

But, coinciding with this decline has been lack of substance in the bitcoin-U.S. dollar (BTC/USD) exchange rate.

After a rally from the September 15 low of $2,908, bears made their presence felt but were reluctant to push the digital currency back to $3,000 levels. The weak selling pressure helped BTC regain some poise, although gains are now being capped at the key downward sloping trend line hurdle.

Money Psychology: How Cryptocurrency Makes Us More Compassionate (Part 2)

Money Psychology: How Cryptocurrency Makes Us More Compassionate (Part 2)

Fiat currencies make us mean and inhumane, according to most money research. On the other hand, cryptocurrencies might bootstrap humankind with more compassion, tenderness, and love. These digital assets could disrupt our psychology and increase human happiness. It’s in the nature of how these currencies function.

That said, if fiat currencies do exacerbate or even cause the money-empathy gap, and other negative psychological phenomena, how does cryptocurrency negate that? Before delving into the psychology of cryptocurrencies, it is important to examine how cryptocurrencies are different from fiat monies.

Cryptocurrencies by their nature were meant to alter human psychology. They were created by crypto-anarchists for the purposes of reshaping the social order — by undermining a system that was erected on the blood and sweat of the people. In this sense, whenever someone creates technology to alter society, it also augments human behavior. Digital currencies do this because they have several properties that fiat currencies do not possess.

Unverified Rumor Circulating That Amazon May Accept Bitcoin By October

Unverified Rumor Circulating That Amazon May Accept Bitcoin By October

Rumors are circulating that Amazon may begin accepting Bitcoin as a payment method this October. The rumors appear to stem from a recent report on squawker.org, Some surveys have indicated that the company would have a financial reason to do so, but no official announcement has been made.

The squawker.org article references a mention in investor James Altucher’s newsletter. According to the source, Altucher is an experienced trader who many believe could have pre-announcement information. The article comments:

"James Altucher has (co)founded more than 20 companies, authored 11 books, and has been a contributor to several major publications. He is a former hedge fund manager and venture capitalist turned activist blogger/podcaster and offers a subscription based mailing list - the source of the Amazon information."

Such an announcement is a long shot, but isn’t inconceivable. As online retailers begin to embrace Bitcoin, Amazon will likely respond in kind, in order to maintain its dominance. Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne said:

"They have to follow suit. I’d be stunned if they don’t, because they can’t just cede that part of the market to us, if we’re the only main, large retail site accepting Bitcoin."

Big Governments Won't Kill Bitcoin Or Uber

Big Governments Wont Kill Bitcoin Or Uber

Big governments and the institutions that align behind them -- big banks and big unions -- have scaled up the campaign against Bitcoin and Uber recently. Russia has been added to the list of countries that are trying to limit the spread of Bitcoin, as London is added to the list of local and national governments that banned Uber's operations.

There’s a good reason big governments have been going after Bitcoin and Uber. They are innovations that challenge the status quo, the power of elites to write the rules that advance their own interests at the expense of the people at large.

Bitcoin has emerged as a "people's currency," an alternative to national currencies, freed of the control of central banks and banks. And that means a loss of seigniorage income for governments—the benefits derived from printing money and from controlling the economy, as discussed in a previous piece here. That's why big governments from China to Russia -- and smaller governments like Venezuela -- have been trying to crush it. How? By banning Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), by closing Bitcoin exchanges, and by going after Bitcoin developers.

And it seems they are succeeding it, with the digital currency having lost close to 30 percent of its value in a matter of days.

How Shanghai Govt Came To Forcing All Bitcoin Trading to Stop: The Insider Story

How Shanghai Govt Came To Forcing All Bitcoin Trading to Stop: The Insider Story

Sept. 22, The Paper news agency reported that the Chinese regulators not only banned the exchange between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies and the Chinese Yuan, but they also called for all trading of cryptocurrency to any fiat currency to end.

This carries the implication that all exchanges have effectively been banned.

Furthermore, the regulators in Shanghai have asked for the top management of the exchanges, including the executives, directors, finance team and technical team members, to stay in Shanghai to cooperate for the clean-up activity.

Previously, the Beijing regulators still did not call for trading in all fiat currency to be stopped. However, it was noticed that on Sept. 15 both OKCoin and HuoBi first announced that all cryptocurrency trading in Chinese Yuan will end. The next day, both exchanges modified their announcements respectively to include a plan to end all cryptocurrency trading activities.

I bought bitcoin at a deli — heres how it works

At first glance, Mario's Gourmet Deli, a New York City bodega on the corner of West 106th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, looks like a regular corner store.

But inside there's an ATM that gives folks access to what some view as the future of payments and finance: bitcoin.

The recently installed ATM was featured in a New Yorker piece by Ian Parker, who described it as a "machine with the body of a regular ATM but the soul of a lottery terminal."

I paid the deli a visit to buy some bitcoin, the digital coin that's up near 500% over the last year. Here's what it was like.

Vivid History: 'How Money Got Free' Is the Untold Story of Bitcoin

Vivid History: How Money Got Free Is the Untold Story of Bitcoin

An early bitcoin developer and entrepreneur, Alex Waters served as COO and CIO for bitcoin exchange startup BitInstant. Later going on to start several bitcoin ventures, he was also at the forefront of efforts to boost its regulatory compliance.

In this opinion piece, Waters reviews "How Money Got Free: Bitcoin and the Fight for the Future of Finance" (Oneworld Publications), arguing it captures the zeitgeist of the original cryptocurrency and the sprawling – all too human – movement that helped it reach the masses.

I have long suspected, owing to its sheer brilliance and idiosyncratic beauty, that bitcoin was in fact brought here by aliens from another planet.

Brian Patrick Eha's vivid history of bitcoin, "How Money Got Free: Bitcoin and the Fight for the Future of Finance," which captures in thrilling journalistic fashion what I experienced in my years working on this remarkable technology, only confirms my suspicions.

Does Bitcoin Meet the Test for Being Money?

Does Bitcoin Meet the Test for Being Money?

Investor pro Doug Casey, founder of Casey Research, has changed his perspective on what Bitcoin is and is not. Previously, Casey held a mixed view of cryptocurrencies, doubting if they had the basic principles that make a currency.

However, after further research and consideration, Casey has affirmed his view that Bitcoin is, indeed, money. This evaluation is based on five principles that make up a currency - durability, consistency, divisibility, convenience and usability.

Among these five criteria, Casey says, he has always believed that Bitcoin meets all of them nicely, with the exception of usability. His concern previously was that Bitcoin had little real-world use cases. Casey, however, has changed his mind, saying:

“The problem I had with Bitcoin to start with was the fifth point: does it have use value in itself, so you can’t get stuck holding the bag? And I said that was the problem with Bitcoin. But I was wrong about that… The bottom line, Bitcoin passes the medium of exchange test for the moment and store of value test for the moment. So you can definitely say it’s money—for the moment.”

5 Reasons to Invest in Bitcoin Before Sept 30th

5 Reasons to Invest in Bitcoin Before Sept 30th

The Bitcoin bubble refuses to burst. Even old school currency traders are now rushing to get a piece of the action. Because on the 30th of September US Congress is expected to do something that could send valuations skyhigh. And if that happens, fortunes will be made.

To an outsider, investing in Bitcoin looked like a white knuckle ride. Its value would steadily creep up for years before nerves and bad headlines sent it tumbling. The use of Bitcoin for nefarious services on the “dark web” such as the infamous “SilkRoad” using the TOR browser didn’t help its cause. Because of this bad press, it seemed only a matter of time before the established players pulled some strings to get the upstart currency shut down.

However, it’s reckless teenage years are now behind it. It’sxpected to be legitimized and embraced by roughly 260,000 businesses. And Bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency set for a bright future

I had the pleasure to speak to Louis Basenese, a former Wall Street investor who directed over $1 billion in institutionalcapital at Morgan Stanley. Louis told me how he repeatedly witnessed how the big banks would “screw over the little guy”. He saw how they’d purposely make investment seem so complex that few dared challenge their right to manage their own money. Anyone who is in the financial markets industry knows this is total bull. Louis got fed up with this “bull” and hence why he got so excited about cryptocurrencies such as BitCoin.

Why Real Estate Industries in Miami and UAE are Embracing Bitcoin

Why Real Estate Industries in Miami and UAE are Embracing Bitcoin

The Miami real estate industry is gradually embracing Bitcoin as realtors realize the merits and advantages of utilizing the Bitcoin network to facilitate the transfer of large-scale transactions.

For many years, the Bitcoin community and experts within the cryptocurrency sector have debated the fundamental purpose of Bitcoin; whether it should operate more as a store of value or a digital cash system that is capable of processing small transactions with substantially low fees like Visa.

As of current, Bitcoin qualifies as both a store of value and a digital cash system. The integration of the Bitcoin Core development team’s transaction malleability and scaling solution Segregated Witness (SegWit) has significantly reduced Blockchain congestion within the Bitcoin network, decreasing the size of the Bitcoin mempool-the holding area for unconfirmed transactions-and the average Bitcoin block size. More to that, less than three percent of Bitcoin’s transactions are SegWit-enabled. As the ratio of SegWit-enabled transaction increase to over 50 percent, Bitcoin transactions will become even cheaper.

As a result, more merchants, investors and users have started to consider and adopt Bitcoin as a financial and a settlement network that is capable of processing both small and large transactions. Within the real estate industry, the majority of transactions or payments are in the millions. But, to process multi-million dollar transactions, banks require extremely high fees, sometimes up to thousands of dollars per transaction.

Jamie Dimon’s Bitcoin Statements Reported as Market Abuse in Sweden

Jamie Dimon’s Bitcoin Statements Reported as Market Abuse in Sweden

Just recently JP Morgan Chase chief executive Jamie Dimon got the cryptocurrency community all riled up when he called bitcoin a “fraud.” Further, after Dimon’s statements and bitcoin markets slumped, JP Morgan Securities Ltd., purchased a bunch of bitcoin-based exchange-traded notes for its clients. Now according to reports, an algorithmic liquidity provider headquartered in London called, Blockswater says Dimon breached certain statutes from the European Union’s Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) articles.

Blockswater believes Dimon abused the market by giving out misleading information in order to influence the price for the company’s own interests. Market manipulation is a criminal offense within EU laws after being harmonized by the Financial Services and Markets Act seventeen years ago. The UK liquidity provider believes something smells fishy between Dimon’s recent bitcoin statements and JP Morgan buying up BTC-notes for clients after the price dip.

“Jamie Dimon’s public assertions did not only affect the reputation of bitcoin, they harmed the interests of some of his own clients and many young businesses that are working hard to create a better financial system,” said Blockswater executive Florian Schweitzer.

A Beginner’s Guide to Bitcoin

A Beginner’s Guide to Bitcoin

It’s possible that in the last few years, you’ve stumbled across a person or company that uses bitcoin. But what is it? Bitcoin is an emerging encrypted form of digital money, or cryptocurrency, that’s growing in popularity and value internationally.

Started in 2009, bitcoin is attractive to users and investors because of its immediacy, lack of oversight and anonymity. The only identifier of a bitcoin account is the wallet ID - no names, emails, zip codes or even IP addresses. It can be translated into US dollars either digitally or at bitcoin exchanges around the world.

Bitcoin doesn’t have a supervising body so transactions have no one to review them, no guidelines. Since it’s encrypted, it opens the possibilities for lots of people to interact on the international market with digital money. The upside to that is immediate transfers, no waiting period, and no fees. This is a large selling point for international businesses but, and this is the down side, that’s also a draw for lesser legitimate operations like narcotics and arms dealers.

As bitcoin has gained popularity around the world, investors started funding and trading with companies operating in bitcoin and has since created a bitcoin marketplace, much like the stock market. Bitcoin values rise and fall by the minute and participants are trading values constantly in attempts to maximize their profits.
